Reader Steve says he does not associate me with a Chrysler PT-Cruiser and says this car is not in the least in my style. Here goes my fantasy of myself, getting out of a PT-cruiser in a huge black hat and a silver fox boa. . .
What car do you think would suit me?
The time I rented a PT Cruiser, I had the feeling that it was pretty flimsy. I am sure that it really is not, but that was the experience for me. I think that what kind of car you want depends on how much you want to spend on it. I think a Volkswagen Jetta or Passat would be fitting. So would a Mazda 3 or a Mazda 6. A Ford Fusion also seems appropriate. If you want elegance and style, as well as pure joy in driving, I can see you in a Corvette, but this only if you never intend to carry more than one other person.

Another car that would really suit you is a Bentley, but it would cost considerably more than a house in Southern Illinois.

I actually think PT Cruiser would fit you. But not a Cadillac… In the Midwest Cadillac is just old ladys’ car… 🙂

The Cadillac is for N. Who doesn’t seem too enthusiastic. Maybe he has something against old ladies. 🙂

I’m not sure why, but the mental image this brings up seems to come from a lost video by Alla Pugačeva, filmed somewhere between this

I have a 10-year-old Pontiac Vibe that I adore. I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off, put the wheels back on, and drive it some more. Pontiac doesn’t exist any more, but it’s the same car as a Matrix. http://www.toyota.com/matrix/

I suppose a lot depends on my picture of you and your picture of yourself.
From reading your blog I get the picture of you as a fairly practical person, impatient with a lot of academic bullshit. So for that I picture you in something like a Toyota Yaris (my wife has one) — it’s roomy inside for a small car, economical and gets you from A to B with a minimum of fuss.
But for your fantasy of yourself getting in and out, I think a Cadillac would fit better. Not the one in your picture, though. Rather one built in the 1920s, perhaps, for a Maharajah. Much more roomy than the Yaris, unaffordable to run, but superb for getting in and out of dressed to the nines.
A cousin of my wife’s had such a car, and somewhere we have a photo of him with it. He lived on Jersey, and so didn’t have to drive it very far.

Yaris is the only Japanese car in the world that I really like. You get me, my friend! 🙂
