And this is what passes for art in Ukraine these days. This gentleman thinks he is being ignored because there is some sort of a political message in his “art.” The possibility that he is simply lacking in talent does not occur to him.

Precisely because he is not rich enough to buy it, he tries to manipulate it with false tales of persecution and censorship. I only discovered him because he placed me on a list of bloggers he chain-emailed with the story of his “subversive” art.

Do you like his art? We all have our own understanding of what is beautiful, and if this appeals to you, that’s great. To me, it looks too much like the stuff that was sold at the entrance to every subway station for 3 hrvnas back in the 1990s. But any appreciation of any aesthetic object is better than no appreciation of no aesthetic object.

It’s clear the artist has a fair bit of technical skill, but the composition, design, and shading are all hideously ugly.

WTF, that is some seriously ugly shit. It reminded me of when we were in Montreal this weekend and we went to the Musee de Beaux Arts, in the front of the Quebec gallery there was this hideous painting of humanlike beavers being killed by ugly trappers and natives with the beaver souls going to heaven, my brother and I thought it was the ugliest, most ghastly painting we have ever seen. Reckon some people think shock is good enough as talent.

Nah, you’re fine, this looks like mediochre tattoo art. I appreciate the technical skill in drawing it in ballpoint pen, but other than that the pictures are extremely boring.

Spasibo, ma’am. We all went because we all had Thanksgiving weekend off, we saw the Musee de Beaux Arts and did a lot of shopping at the underground malls and drove to the top of Mont Royal, we also ate very good 😀 Plus, RDS is an awesome channel and it’s weird to see Eminem with French subtitles on MusicPlus.

Ukranian art is traditionally very happy and colorful. Where the Russians built scary gray churches, Ukrainians covered their with paintings of cucumbers and tomatoes.

I think the artist tries to show the real life in Ukraine, not as it is shown in Russian mass-media… by the way they have the new revolution there now in Ukraine and one of my friends on Facebook from Ukraine told me- the protestors made a lot of prints of his piece- where the artist depicted the Ukrainian politicians as vampires- real strong metaphore.
