Communist Hair

So do you have any explanation for why Communist regimes in very different areas of the world are so obsessed with hair?

  1. People are very visual creatures, getting more than 90% of information via sight. The same hairstyles create an image of 100% controlled by a party, filled with robot-like citizens world. You walk along streets and everybody looks similar, (sub)consciously influencing you in various ways. No room for rebellion, even inside yourself.

  2. It’s easier to see people (and yourself) as merely parts of a system, if they look similar. Loss of individuality, which is extremely dangerous for Leaders.

  3. Hair is one of the most visible and easily manipulable part of individual identity. Communists try to destroy this identity.

    1. Pretty much what I was gonna say, except that communists (depending on regime) aren’t so much about destroying identity but molding it into a few acceptable patterns.

What they want to destroy isn’t the identity per se but the individual’s ability to shape their own identity.
