I’m noticing that comment voting is important to people, so I have changed the system to make it more sophisticated. Now, instead of just upvoting or downvoting a comment, you can rate it on a scale from 1 to 5. Do check it out and tell me how you feel about the new system. I made the stars green but I can also make them red, yellow, blue, or grey.
No ma’am. I don’t like it.

For posts that have a lot of comments, all those green/red/yellow stars are going to clutter the screen quite a bit. And those posts need to be less distracting so that multiple people can engage with each other in real time.
For posts that have a couple of comments, it doesn’t really matter what you do.

Haven’t thought about that before, but it’s right.
The stars jump to eyes painfully because of the ‘screaming’ color.
Btw, never look at the voting.

Grey stars might be less distracting.

I changed it to gray but it got kind of depressing.

What rating controls?
I haven’t seen them at all after installing some rather basic filtering software — I think it’s something called “Disconnect Me” …
[ahem] 🙂

I prefer the binary “thumbs up/down” option. Evaluating comments feels weird, but I’ve found it’s fun being able to signal “nicely said!” or “I concur” or “that was dumb.” The more fine-grained system elicits more judge-y labor than I really want to put in.

I can always change it back if people don’t like it.

Five gray stars to that idea!

I suppose you have changed it back? I liked the idea, but have been unable to read here for a couple of days.

Yes, I changed it back since it didn’t seem to make anybody happy.
