Kremlin and the Iran Deal

The Kremlin is flipping out in a major way over the US-Iran deal.  Even just to stick it to Putin, it would make sense to ensure the deal happens.

And it’s not only that the Kremlin fears that the oil prices will continue to stagnate if the deal is made. Russia sees the Middle East as one more of their “areas of influence” (and I cringe even to use this Putinoid terminology). Any departure from the US being massively hated in the region bugs the Kremlin to no end.

  1. Report: Israel to host international conference on nuclear testing
Around 100 representatives from Jordan, Egypt and other Arab and Muslim states will attend Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization conference.
    […]
As a condition for the conference to take place, the Israeli Foreign Ministry had to promise to protect and maintain the safety of the delegates arriving from those countries that do not have diplomatic ties with Israel, the report added.

In other news, 22 y.o. Israeli was murdered in Berlin during the Easter weekend. His horribly damaged body was found in the ruins of a Berlin church. The face was destroyed, and he was identified by ID card in his pocket. Later checks confirmed his identity. Why and by whom he was killed isn’t known yet. Though many commenters in the Hebrew article tal how Israelis is Berlin disrespect the 6 million, are in danger and should come back. What do you think about “they disrespect the 6 million” stance? If they don’t so so in your eyes, why not?

      • What a tragedy this death is. But you have to rephrase your question because I’m lost. I’ve been grading since 8 am and by this time, I only understand simple, easy sentences.

The question is whether Jews / Israelis, who live /leave for Berlin / Germany, disrespect the memory of the Jews killed in the Holocaust. Most Israelis seem to think it is disrespect.

    2. The driving force behind anti-semitism in Europe is the anger of young muslims. It seems that some news sources try to downplay this in faovr of supposed neo-nazis but my guess is either non-jewish related drug crime or muslim anti-semitic hate crime with neo-nazi hate crime in a distant, distant third.

Newly arrived immigrants with no economic/social/political capital driving anti-semitism? Instead of extremist right-wing political parties in governments all over Europe?

        Maybe we’re defining anti-semitism differently.

        ‘Supposed neo-nazis’ lo-fucking-l.

Want to note that most European Muslims seem to be 2nd or even 3rd generation.

Clarissa, I hope you’ll have more posts about “Europe’s angry Muslims.” May be, he refers to the questions “which generation” and “Muslim antisemitism” too.

You and Cliff are probably talking about different things. Cliff was speculating on the subject of “who killed a Jew,” and said that “Muslims” was the likely answer. I am not happy to say that, but cliff’s guess does seem to be likely based on the past.

money quote: “many among the 600 Jews left in Malmo “are afraid to leave their homes; many want to leave the city and do not want their children to grow up there.” Many of Malmo’s Jews left for Stockholm or other cities because of the rising anti-Semitism, perpetrated mostly by members of the city’s Muslim community.”

And it wasn’t neo-nazis who killed the jews in Paris recently…..

I googled “anti-semitism in Europe” to find more about what European Jews think on the issue. Found interesting how Jews and non-Jews in the following article stress different causes (I suppose, everybody is right, but wonder who is more right):

\ According to Michael Whine, CST director of government and international affairs, many European countries seek to “equate anti-Semitism and anti-Muslim hatred in the same breath and they are not the same. Muslims are suffering in Europe, and that is being monitored, but it’s certainly not coming from the Jews, whereas *many of the attacks against Jews are coming from the Muslims.”

“The growing problem of anti-Semitism in Europe comes from Muslims and the Left and anti-Israel agitators*,” he added.

In its announcement of the conference, the FRA pointed to other roots for the rise in anti-Semitism, citing a recent Pew study indicating that “incitement and hostility rooted in theological and other discourse, far-right ideologies and Holocaust denial are growing in Europe.”

Let’s just not jump to conclusions about this murder.

    3. Neo-Nazism is on the rise in Europe. This is an incontrovertible and tragic fact of reality. But neo-Nazism is a very complex phenomenon that cannot be ascribed to a single cause. I do think that the rise of neo-Nazism should be attributed to the process that is similar to the one that gave birth to it 100 years ago: the rapid modernization that is leaving many people behind, lost, angry and traumatized. I’m not excusing the neo-Nazism, of course. But it’s crucial to understand the causes.

I am absolutely convinced – although this cannot be proven – that if there currently were not a single Muslim in Europe, we’d still see the exact same neo-Nazism in the exact same manifestations.

SB, is English your mother-tongue? I thought you were a man (?) from India, right? Do most Indians have Hindi or English as a mother-tongue?

I may sound weird sometimes both because of not being a native speaker and (in this case) because of desiring to be absolutely clear.

Would European Jews be just as afraid as some are currently? Will the new neo-Nazism target and kill Jews? So far, murders were made by Muslims, not neo-Nazis.

It’s just that the phrase ‘who killed a jew’ makes me wonder if it’s the opening lines from a song in ‘Borat’, and I had to laugh at that imagery.

I also think it is crucial that educated people today know that pretty much the entire literature in English today is being written in the former colonies.

Well, I don’t remember seeing the word “India” too much in history textbooks at school, if at all. I am very ignorant about the country, but haven’t meant to offend. Checking wikidepia hasn’t made the answer clear. If both languages are official, it doesn’t mean everybody is a native speaker of both.
