Psychoanalysis in Quebec

Quebec has passed regulations that forbid 6 of its 8 psychoanalysts to practice in the province. God forbid pharmaceutical companies lose a couple dozen patients. The government of Quebec has to protect the interests of these companies at all costs.

  1. In the province of Québec, psychanalystes is not a regulated title so anyone can claim it. I think this article sheds some light on the issue here (link is in French) http://www.lapresse.ca/vivre/societe/201201/18/01-4486908-le-lent-declin-de-la-psychanalyse.php I don’t think restrictions and regulations are bad here, it’s a case of ensuring health professionals have proper accreditation (unless you are referring to a law other than Loi 21?).

      1. I see, thanks. I couldn’t find any news about more recent developments unfortunately. I think the distinction between psychanalystes and psychologues d’orientation psychodynamique analytique, as is mentioned in that article, is probably important. I’m not convinced psychoanalysis is well defined or overseen here. But this is not really my field, so I could be wrong.

      1. We had a very nice dinner with a variety of salads and sausages, and heated debates on the October federal election and the collapse of social democracy in Quebec. You would have loved being here.
