Yes, one does become all weird and hermit – like as a result but I already submitted two articles and have made enormous progress on the book this summer. Coming anywhere near campus or colleagues would suck me in and mess with my work routine in crazy ways.

No, no, you are just a good, kind, wonderful person. It’s really great that you’d make the table of contents for the handbook and help out the colleague. I wish I were more like that.

That’s sweet of you to say! But I’d rather be a well-published person with a book to my credit! 🙂 I don’t know if it’s going to happen any time soon — although I know that if I want a different job, it’s going to take a book (or a miracle). The reason I’ve caved on being department chair is because it will look decent on my CV. Not as good as a book, though!!
