Two Cohens or One?

People, help me out. Is this Roger Cohen who wrote the completely unhinged article in today’s NYTIMES the same Cohen who writes crazy Putinoid pieces for The Nation? Or is it a different Cohen? And if so, what made the bearers of such a glorious name suddenly go crazy en masse?

  1. Different Cohen, the one that writes for the Nation is Stephen Cohen. The name Cohen is extremely common among US elite opinion makers and cultural figures. There are also the Cohen Brothers film makers, Leonard Cohen the musician, and a whole bunch of others.

  2. “Putinoid” idiot?? Don’t you know that Stephen Cohen (husband of Katrina vanden Heuvel, the owner/publisher/editor of “The Nation”) is a renowned American scholar of Russian studies at Princeton University???

How can you question his expertise on Russia? 🙂

    1. Actually, no, I had no idea. No wonder that Slavic Studies in this country are dead. If this kind of village idiot is hired by Princeton, what can we expect?

  3. BTW, if you think certain “progressives” named Cohen are Putinoid idiots, they can’t hold a candle to a frequent “Salon.com” writer with a totally plain-Jane name like “Patrick L. Smith”:

Stephen Cohen and Patrick Smith are about my age, but the years haven’t been kind to their intellectual capabilities. As the saying goes, there’s no fool like an old fool.
