There’s a saying that “Every step you’ve ever taken has brought you to where you now stand.” Perhaps changing a minor step along the way, let alone a major one, might have ultimately changed the outcome in unpredictable and undesirable ways.

Yes, absolutely! If I knew I was going to meet N at the age of 31, I would not go on a single date after my first marriage. I’d just stay at home reading books, happy as a clam. The time I wasted on a million and one bad first dates, oh Lordy!
