A nurse looks at my chart and exclaims, “You are from Canada??? And you live here?? What’s wrong with you? Don’t you see who’s trying to get elected? A madman! People move to Canada, not from Canada.”
“We’ll win, don’t worry,” I reassure the nurse.

“We’ll win, don’t worry,” I reassure the nurse.
The nurse should have been professional enough to keep her political views to herself.

Hey, it helped. I perked up immediately.

That’s because you agreed with her views!
If a doctor/nurse/preacher/lawyer (or anyone else in an authority position) expresses strong political/religious/social views to a client, and the client happens to strongly believe differently, that will drive an unnecessary emotional wedge between the authority figure and the person receiving the services.
If that nurse had said, “Hillary’s a pathological bitch,” how would you have reacted — or at least felt?

Normally I would agree with Deirdel here. But I think the nurse took a calculated risk. Clarissa is from Canada, a professor, and a woman: the chances of Clarrissa being a Trump supporter are very low.
As someone who gets very very nervous in hospitals and doctor’s office (so nervous that it’s hard to get an accurate read on my blood pressure at times), I’ve found that nurses will try to distract me with humorous chit chat. I’m assuming something similar was happening in Clarissa’s situation. If the nurse was particularly skilled, she probably had a prepared “feint” if Clarissa turned out to be a Trump supporter.

I would have been worried if I saw that the nurse was clearly delusional. 😎 But she showed excellent judgment with her comment, and I was glad.
This isn’t about agreement. It’s about stating incontrovertible facts.

So which direction do the facts run in?

In the direction of Trump being certifiable.

At least the nurse didn’t play this and leave the room:
(It was either this or the stylings of Leslie Odom Jr. But seriously if you like baritones or autumn leaves)

Hillary should be in prison and you should be pushing a mop.

Well I’m ignoring Glenfilthie’s bizarre and rage filled outburst: but how are you feeeling Clarissa?

A bit woozy but much better, thank you. It was an acute hypertensive episode. They gave me a list of recommendations and the first one is “Ideal body weight.” 😄

I understand that there is a link between high blood pressure and weight. Still, I think medical doctors are way way too weight obsessed. I know people who are quite heavy who have great blood pressure and very thin people who have high blood pressure. “Lose weight” is a lazy and overly simplistic remedy.

It’s not even “lose weight.” It’s get “Ideal body weight.” 😆
