Why Zizek Supports Trump

Here is a very good article on why Zizek prefers for Trump to win today.

Zizek is all, “blah blah , revolution, blah blah, power to the people” but the simple reality is that it flatters his sensibilities to see somebody so similar to himself: a boisterous ugly man who enjoys purchasing young, dumb female meat. That’s what this is really about.

Zizek is a great thinker (although not in Bauman’s league), so one can forgive him for these little vanities.

    1. I hate Slate because they overdo the links and that exhausts me. But I read Rebecca’s articles because I love her sense of humor. And the articles are always great.

      1. I hate Slate because they’re contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. Most of their articles are so click-bait-y.

Remember the Bangladesh garment factory building collapse that killed a thousand people? Matthew Yglesias (now at Vox) literally wrote an article the day of the disaster with this headline:

Different places have different safety rules and that’s OK

        His body of work:

      2. Note the accompanying image of dead bangladeshi bodies accompanying that headline.

Oh, so that’s why my Twitter mentions a week ago were full of Zizek! That reasoning he displays in the video is so simple minded as to be laughable.

    1. Yeah. . . It’s like back in the day Chomsky argued that the rise of the Tea Party was a great thing because they were exploited workers who would be easy to attract to progressive causes. I was stunned by the wilful blindness of the fellow.

Not really. I notice that such people are well shielded from the unrest generated by such an event. People who take the attitude “this horrible asshole will usher in the revolution with his horribleness” are either well positioned to leave this country through jobs/other means or are already residing outside of it.

эти выборы – не обычные, а особенные. Есть люди, которые немедленно скажут, что так говорили про любые выборы, но эти люди заблуждаются (или врут). В этих выборах действительно есть что-то, чего практически не бывает обычно каждые четыре года.

He also links to this FaceBook post in English:

Every election, the Chicken Littles of both parties make a big deal out of how this year’s election opponent is the Worst Ever and Literally Hitler, and take every single thing their opponents do and try to make it sound as terrible as possible, and so on.
Okay, but here’s the thing. What does NOT happen every election cycle–and this happened months ago, not in the wake of the current bandwagon–is the entire Republican national security establishment going HOLY SHIT and repudiating the Republican candidate en masse.
Maybe I shouldn’t take it for granted that everyone already looks at the world and sees (a) a level of politics that’s theater and (b) a level of politics that’s deadly, deadly serious.
Maybe you heard that Trump said maybe we shouldn’t defend NATO countries if Russia invades. And you interpreted that as Trump expressing fed-up-ness with American military spending and our trying to defend everything in the world without getting much in return. Somebody in the newspapers seemed to be making a big deal out of it, just like they make a big deal out of Clinton emails. Clutching at their pearl necklaces and fainting about how terribly important it is that America honor its commitments to other countries, or something.
    No.
