Philosopher Assholes, Cont’d

But hey, the maligned Tuvel is just as freaky as her persecutors. This is how she defines her research:

My research lies at the intersection of critical race, feminist and animal ethics. Throughout my research, I have considered several ways in which animals, women and racially subordinated groups are oppressed.

Just wow.

Who are these freakazoids?

  1. Oh, sure, pile up animals with women and racial minorities, that’s the way you do it.
I mean, I’m against animal cruelty as much as the next person, but this is just inane (insane?). With shit like this, nobody is gonna take you seriously ever again.

    1. Notice that animals come first.

One good thing is that she chose not to mention what specific animals women and racial minorities remind her of, so thank God for that small mercy.

  2. I’m not really into animal studies, posthumanism, and the work of Donna Haraway and others, but I think that this is a valid issue for research and scholarship, as long as you make it clear that you’re not saying that animal rights and human rights (of women and minorities) are equally important. Then again, it’s almost impossible to avoid this implication if this is what you’re writing about. But I don’t think this is one of the craziest research agendas I’ve seen.
