The problem with long sentences is that often they build up expectations only to collapse into utter triviality at the very end.
I couldn’t agree more! I have to proofread long technical and legal reports and often find myself wanting to scream for punctuation.

I especially like the ones that go “And all this – a long list of fascinating and complex issues – is important to study.” One expects a lot more after a long expository first half of the sentence.
