Université Laval in Quebec City is being criticized for a questionnaire that required job candidates to reveal whether they’ve been tested for HIV, the date they last menstruated and whether they’ve been treated for cancer.
The weird thing is that they are being criticized about it now and not decades ago. What kind of medieval hiring is this?

A lot of jobs outside North America require that you take an HIV test and test negative every year. If you test positive you are arrested, your work permit revoked, your job terminated, and you are deported. This was the case when I first worked at AUCA in Kyrgyzstan in 2007 and it is currently the case at AUIS in Kurdistan. I was surprised that it was not the case in Ghana. But, for a very large number of countries a yearly negative HIV test result is necessary to be resident and work in them as a foreigner.
