The nation’s top intelligence officer said on Friday that the persistent danger of Russian cyberattacks today was akin to the warnings the United States had of stepped-up terror threats ahead of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
This has now become completely comical. People are embarrassing themselves all over the place and not even noticing.
Cyber attacks are not a joke. It is clear that, whatever happened in 2016, a skilled and determined adversary could alter our election results by the simple expedient of changing details of voter registration records so that they were ruled ineligible to vote. I have twice worked as an election officer at a polling place. If someones ZIP code was incorrect on their registration, they were permitted to cast a “provisional ballot” but my understanding was that these were rarely counted. Preventing a few thousand carefully selected voters from voting could easily alter the outcomes of close races.

Even if somebody did this (and it wouldn’t be Russians with their extremely primitive tech capacities), it couldn’t compare with a terrorist attack where thousands of people were killed in a matter of a couple of hours.
