This is classic projection. Trump is a strongman like I’m a dainty wallflower. But people with authoritarian tendencies project their defects on him.
He’s not a typical strongman. He does it by tweet. He sics his followers onto Republicans that displease him. He supports their primary challengers.
He has taken over the Republican party, hasn’t he?

Trump’s been banned from Twitter for years.
In any case, a strongman who is only strong in tweets is a very weak man. I’ll never forget how Trump impotently tweeted “Law & order!” during the BLM riots. I’m still vicariously embarrassed over that.
As for supporting challengers, it’s hard to think of a more democratic procedure than that. Actual strongmen usually leave the headless corpse of the displeasing politician at his family’s door.

You are right about supporting challengers. That’s probably one of the most harmless things he does. Mentioning that diluted my point.
I used “tweets” to encompass all the ways he communicates with his cult. Thankfully, we still live in a country of laws, so he probably wouldn’t be able to arrange to murder someone without being caught. A strongman who kills his opponents is not possible here yet.
He does the next best thing. He inspires his cult to send death threats to those who defy him. Republican politicians voted against impeaching him, have chosen not to run for re-election, and voted the way he wanted them on certain key bills instead of voting the way they wanted because of that. Their security costs have risen dramatically.

OK, so where’s the evidence of the “death threats” or that Trump asked anybody to issue them?
Or by “death threats” do you mean somebody posted something stupid online? How do you “inspire” somebody to make threats without telling them to do so? Where are the police complaints and prosecutions of these threats?
I’m sorry, this all sounds like a conspiracy theory of the first order. Isn’t it likelier that politicians don’t want to go against Trump because they know they won’t get the votes if they do?

Here’s an example. Last week some online dude sent me a message, saying “I’m gonna rape you.” Is that a threat? In my view, clearly not. It’s just some tool running his mouth.
If that online dude was inspired to make this comment by the activism of Marc Lamont Hill, does this make Hill responsible for those comments? Does it make him a strongman?
My answers are no to all of it.
