Mysterious Vehicle

People, do help. I saw a car in town today, and it was so unusual. It looked like a futuristic tank. Very geometric, steel-grey. I thought we were being invaded by space aliens.

And now I can’t find it on Google because my descriptions don’t lead to anything like that vehicle.

Does anybody know what I’m talking about and can drop an image? Or a name? This is driving me nuts.

      1. We see one every day on our “school run” and I had the exact same reaction – wtf is that ugly, aggressive, tank-like vehicle?! I heard someone compare them to the steel urinals in the park toilets 😀

      2. I call them Cybertanks. They are butt ugly, they stall out when going off-road (as if anyone who can afford one has a need to go off-road), and they are unnecessarily huge. On Mother’s Day, the busiest day of the year for grocery stores, I watched some fool cause a traffic jam trying to park one at Central Market (Austin does not have large-ass vehicle sized parking spots in the city). As someone who lives less than 3 miles from the Tesla factory, I have had a visceral hatred of these vehicles since day one back in November or December when they were released. And all the hoopla The Elon made about them. He really has lost his mind!

I like a lot of videos by Adam Something (Hungarian now living in Czechia) who examines misguided ideas about urban living…

He does a hilarious takedown of the butt-ugly Elon-mobile

      1. “like the brutalist architecture in socialist countries”

I know what you mean, if I just saw a picture of the outside and was told it was the design of a sports car (result of an experiment into consumerist production) made in the Uzbek SSR circa 1970…. I would probably believe it.

Supposedly the capital of Macedonia (Skopje) has a lot of brutalist architecture that adds to its charms (foreigners usually like it while locals mostly…. don’t).

I’m fine with a few brutalist buildings in the urban landscape… I prefer that to the anonymous glass/metal boxes that architects are so fond of….
