In 3 months, N achieved incredible advances with his Spanish. From absolute zero he went to the point where he tells stories, enacts funny dialogues, and does it all with almost no accent.
A strong intellect is a wonderful thing, indeed.

That’s awesome, especially since Russian and Spanish have little in common. Working as a substitute teacher and teaching Sunday school and attending Spanish services at my church have greatly improved my Spanish, I didn’t grow up speaking Spanish.
At my job and in Sunday school, I’ve had to translate for students who don’t speak English or a little English so I’ve had to learn for my job. And listening to the Mass in Spanish forces one to pay attention for better understanding, there’s different nuances in listening to the Bible in Spanish than in English

Sigh. Went to liturgy in Spanish for months, and still the only bit I can remember is the opening to the Padre nuestro, and where to say “Senor ten piedad”.
