But this is not new or strange or the whole of politics? Passionate love for politicians is a perennial thing, as well as support that comes from a more measured or calculated place.

That’s exactly my point. Democrats repeat like broken records that Trump supporters are a cult. I’m showing here that cult-like devotion to politicians thrives on both sides.
