I talked to two Ukrainians who say I should vote for Trump. They say with Kamala it will be more of the same, and that’s turning out badly for Ukraine. With Trump, it can go much worse or much better but at least there is a chance for better.
I understand their point but I’m not a gambling person. I’m the opposite of that. I’m very risk averse.
Yes, yes, I know my individual vote changes nothing. But I care about voting and I think about this a lot.

Last Sunday we visited Ukrainian friends from our parish here in Atlanta. Discussion turned to politics (nevermind that my wife isn’t US citizen, so not voting).
One concern among others was the potential for Trump to seize power, like Putin. It is hard to dismiss this, after his attempt to derail the normal transfer of power. More concerning is that his hardcore followers are detached from reality. I will probably write in someone – I cannot vote Kamala, because I am prolife, and she wants to codify Roe. But there is still the question of who will control congress.
All in all, politics in the US sucks more than ever

For me, it’s an easy choice. No, Trump will probably not make anything big happen. But even if I expect the least from him, he’ll bring back the bare minimum in immigration policy like “remain in Mexico,” his administration won’t zealously prosecute pro-life activists, etc. I’m not expecting miracles from a president in 2024, I’m just voting for a lack of active hostility. The real action will happen on the state level (which I realize it deeply depressing when you live in Illinois, my condolences.)
Ukraine, I’m somewhat inclined to agree with your friends but Vance as VP makes it a cagey proposition.

I don’t think Vance will have much influence. Trump doesn’t seem interested in being ordered around by his VP.
Your argument about lack of active hostility speaks to me. I’ll keep thinking about it.
