Q&A about Rich People

I’m feeling very misunderstood. I wish nothing but the very best to the rich, the very rich, and the mega rich. I’m so supportive that I’m in favor of a flat (not progressive) income tax and have been so forever. I’m very, very wishful that the rich should be extremely happy. All I ask is that they be very happy at a distance from me.

My sensibility is very proletarian. At work, I feel most comfortable with the janitor, the cafeteria staff, and the building workers. The only time I enjoyed talking to somebody at a reception, she turned out to be the cleaner.

  1. Yeah. This.

Rich people have very different priorities. I can usually tell by someone’s shoes, whether I will enjoy talking to them or not– shoes are a wonderful proxy marker for income, and how much the person cares about perceived status.

LOL, unless they’re wearing cowboy boots, the fancier elaborate ones are for phony arseholes. With a wide foot and a high instep, I have always chosen comfort ;-D

      1. I’ve spent way more time looking at people’s feet than looking at their faces, so even cowboy boots… could probably gauge with reasonable accuracy 😉 There’s a large and obvious difference between people who wear boots because they spend a lot of time around livestock, and people who wear boots because they think boots make them look manlier. They pick very different boots.

        1. Fair enough, I have always bought good quality cowboy, work, and hiking boots and resoled them…because once you have worn them into being comfortable you certainly don’t want to just throw them away ;-D

          1. My dad had a pair he’d picked up for like $5 at a thrift shop: they’d been very expensive boots, new, and also kind of silly– multicolored leather cutout/insets, in the shape of peacocks, on the sides 😀 He got them because he needed shoes and they were the right price, but wore them for years and resoled them twice, at least.
