What’s the Deal with Ireland?

Does anybody understand what’s happening with Ireland? They’ve gone off the deepest of ends but why? Why them specifically?

This is very unfortunate and sad. A formerly proud nation is turning into a frumpy, petty wokescold.

  1. Ireland is what happens when you have the church in cahoots with the government for a long time, with said church being authoritarian and prudish and interfering. Young people start thinking the church is evil and all the stories of corruption, priests raping kids and taking mistresses, the Magdalene laundries and selling children don’t help.

Also, Ireland was seen as a backwards rural country for long that when they became more progressive, they went crazy progressive. I guess they wanted to show that they weren’t a rural backward place that they went totally in the opposite direction, think of how Spain was under Franco and how it is now. The sad part is that the Catholic Church in Ireland is so dysfunctional with all the scandals and how they ruined women’s lives by imprisoning them for having children out of wedlock and either killing or selling these children, maybe the church shouldn’t have been that powerful

    1. I think you’re spot on. It does sound like the religious and conservative fabric of that country was ripped apart due to those scandals, and now they’re going the opposite way. How can you trust religious figures and such when they were so savage and violated every common sense of decency and respect.
