I voted in the Republican primary today. I’m hoping against hope that we will be able to get rid of the unelectable moron Darren Bailey as the R candidate for governor. This is also an opportunity to support some great R people on the local level. One of them saved us all during COVID and then got displaced by a former colleague of mine. It’s all my fault, actually, because I couldn’t get her a contract amidst budget cuts. She had nothing to do and went into politics, displacing this firebrand Republican guy who also happens to be the husband of a friend of mine. Small towns are like that.
I’m having a crazy day today, having to drive to St Louis for a student-teacher observation in French, of all things, and then back for two DEI trainings one right after another. But at least I voted Republican in the morning. That compensates me somewhat.
You live in southern Illinois? My first job as a lawyer was clerking for a 5th district appellate judge in Illinois. He was a democrat but old school. I remember when he went to the Democrat convention, he was running for Supreme Court at the time and trying to get the party endorsement. I said “How can they have the convention before the primary?” He laughed and said “The party will tell us who to vote for in the primaries at the convention.”
I live in St. Louis, not the city the county. The city is lost.

Yes. St Louis is…. as you say. I’ve lived here for 16 years, and I only go to STL to go to Clayton, the Global Foods store, and to take my kid to the zoo or the Magic House. Otherwise, there’s no reason to go. It’s terrible.

LOL, my wife goes to Global all the time, she’s Phillipino. My God those people love rice. Grants Farm is actually fun, you pay only for parking, the Botanical Gardens are also impressive and kids love Six Flags. My office is very close to Clayton now, I was downtown for 27 years but the decline, especially after Ferguson, became unbearable.

Right?? My daughter loves to sit on those bags of rice because there are so many of them. 🤣🤣
If you are near Clayton, you are practically my homey. I knew I had a reason to like you.

One thing I didn’t mention is that in the evening I’m meeting a friend to support her before her open brain surgery in Arizona.
Tomorrow is going to be even crazier, with an early morning taping of my show, then teaching Vargas Llosa, and then a trip to Clayton.
And on Thursday I’m moderating a conference in Portugal remotely, starting at 6:15 my time, then off to the gym, and then to the meeting of the curriculum council.
It’s lively around here, for sure.
