Murdoch might actually improve the magazine if he assigns it a decent editor/proofreader. The latest issue (Sep 2015) contains the incredible phrase, “Many invertebrates, such as salamanders…”
At least the subscription cost is still cheap, and the mag has great nature photos.
Please do ask N cancel that sub Clarissa. Murdoch never improves anything in any way except those which will make him and his family more dominant in their control of the world’s media. He is the founder of a deeply dangerous oligarchy which desires to control everything we see, hear and read.
As you say, he has a problem with scientific, and other, facts; he won’t give a damn that salamanders are not invertebrates. He won’t give a damn that the National Geographic has great photos either. He’d probably prefer to employ photo-shop wizards than genuine nature photographers.
I’ve been boycotting Murdoch’s brands for decades, my kids were deprived of sky tv, sob sob. He pursues a relentless campaign against the BBC, trying to destroy its credibility and, ultimately its existence. The Times was once a world leading newspaper in its reporting and editorials, until he got his talons into it. He has used his press dominance to control the British government.
You are absolutely right. This fellow has a talent for turning everything he touches to vulgarity and silliness. National Geographic is such a great publication. This is such a shame.

Murdoch is known to have a painful personal relationship with science. Its existence seems to bother him.

If he buys up the Guardian, I’m sunk!

Does N watch the TV channel too sometimes? We do.
Has Rupert Murdoch bought the channel too?

Murdoch already owns the NG Channel.
On the bright side, maybe the magazine will stop whining about climate change in all its articles.
