Job and Career

Sometimes the job is the career, and sometimes the job is a means for subsidizing the career.”

That’s precisely the problem. I feel like the job and the career have become completely divorced in my life. They exist on different planes.

  1. There are three pieces, not two: job, career and life. The job is the current gig, the career is a path that supports everything else you are (until you decide to change it), and life is the path you choose and what you want to experience along the way. And yes, enthusiasm for the job will founder along the way. Happens to everyone. That’s why the seemingly indulgent profession of “career coach” exists.

  2. Well, I on the other hand would say that if these things are on 2 planes, it is good at least to know it. I should just recognize that and operate this way. (I have come to realize clearly today how destructive and self-destructive my colleagues really are, and how entirely misguided it is of me to try to bring job and career together.)
