The progressive left that has seized so much of the heights of Western culture is not some radical threat to the establishment. It IS the establishment. Progressive leftism is market liberalism by other means. It enables the spread and growth of machine society by launching an all-out war on any cultural norms that remain to us in the 2020s, norms that act as a brake on the spread of machine values. The Left and corporate capitalism now function like a pincer. One attacks the culture, deconstructing everything from history to heteronormativity to national identities. The other moves in to monetize the resulting fragments.
Paul Kingsnorth, Against the Machine
By the machine, Kingsnorth means the ultra-digital surveillance apparatus produced by the merger of the corporate world and the government in neoliberal societies.
A brilliant statement from a serious philosopher. Zygmunt Bauman would love Kingsnorth.
Have you heard about what happened in France? A young right wing man was beaten to death by anti-fascists at a protest in Lyon. He died on Valentine’s Day. Since then 6 assailants have been identified, and some are confirmed to be members of Jeune Garde, a militant anti-fascist organization with strong ties to LFI (Mélenchon’s party.) Story is still developing.
Every news source is eager to identify Quentin and the collective he was with, Némésis, as “far right.” The fact that Némésis is a feminist group (opposed to mass immigration for obvious reasons), not always as enthusiastically remarked upon; The Guardian doesn’t mention it at all.

I didn’t know. I looked it up, and it’s terrible. Such a young boy. What a horror.

i’ve mostly been keeping up with this story from a French right wing news site to avoid this crap. Every time I glance at English language coverage it looks like this.

LOL, yes, of course, anybody that dares to question mass immigration is “far right”, and anybody that notices that some Islamic behavior limits female freedom is “feminist” ;-D

I agree, these women are just regular women who don’t want to get molested and raped. There’s nothing particularly feminist in that wish. Or even female. I’d characterize it as a normal human wish.

Yeah, Nemesis was actually the Greek goddess of conscience.

Feminist is their own self-identification here, I’m simply relaying it.

LOL, I realize that. But all of the terms being utilized, not only by the media but also by those involved, are essentially meaningless because they are so variable as to be contradictory ;-D
