Black Russian Bread

I reminded him that Smith lives in Arkansas, not Bethesda. “We pay five dollars for a loaf of Black Russian bread at Whole Foods. I’m thinking a cheap loaf of bread in Arkansas is like seventy cents.”

After this one sentence, I immediately forgave the linked blogger for nasty comments about my university, a.k.a. the best place in the universe. Black Russian bread is, indeed, phenomenal. Of course, black Lithuanian bread is even better.

P.S. The linked post is not about the Russian bread but something a lot more important. I highly recommend.

  1. I’m glad that you forgave him. Would you forgive the “Economist” for the following statement?

“School reform and introducing choice is crucial: no Wall Street financier has done as much damage to American social mobility as the teachers’ unions have.”

Just came across this statement (revealed truth mode) in an article entitled True Progressivism. One of those “Whoa” moments.

    1. I thought The Economist couldn’t get any more pathetic than it already was but this is a new low.

This is what passes for journalism in this country. And to think that there are people who pay to read this crape.

      1. One useful statement in the article is this one: “In America the housing subsidy to the richest fifth (through mortgage-interest relief) is four times the amount spent on public housing for the poorest fifth.”

Of course, the mortgage tax credits will never be cut because it’s an effective tool of social control.
