Marmite

There are 3 things I always wanted to try: Weetabix, lemon curd and Marmite. I read a lot of British mysteries, and people in them by the train-load.

So yesterday I found a British store and bought all three. The lemon curd turned out to be amazing but Marmite. . . God, folks, how do you eat this stuff? It’s disgusting. I read about people slathering it on toast but the taste must be hideous.

Entertainment Politics

Just saw this Frederica Wilson person on TV for the first time.

Jesus.

I think the best thing for everybody is to forget this whole story as soon as possible.

Advice

What makes people think that when somebody shares something on FB they are looking for advice?

People never ever look for advice. Unless they actually say they need advice. And even then it’s mostly a lie.

Two Sides

The downtown area of St Charles, Missouri is strictly divided in two halves. In the first, families buy artisanal soap and $40 baby outfits, and then take their kids to drink homemade lemonade with huge local cookies in the bourgeois quiet of stylized local shoppes.

In the second, rowdy people stumble from one bar to another, hoping to meet somebody to pair off and eventually go buy soap and cookies in the bourgeois part of the town.

Steak and Vegetables

Trump, Pence and Paul Ryan go out to an expensive restaurant.

“What will you be having, Mr President?” the waiter asks.

“Steak,” says Trump.

“And what about vegetables?”

“The vegetables will also have steak,” Trump responds, pointing at Pence and Ryan.

Alien

Progressives preach about β€” and to β€” people with whom they have no real connection, and do so in ways that would embarrass them to death if it were a racial line rather than a class line they were crossing in such a state of pristine ignorance. They are the mirror image of white conservatives who wonder why poor black people in the Bronx can’t just β€œact white” and get with the program.

So totally, completely and utterly true. The current progressive discourse of “triggers, structural inequalities, me-toos, Harvey Weinsteins” and all the rest of it sounds deranged and idiotic to the very people the progressives try to speak to and for.

Putin’s Racists

The funniest article ever. I hooted with laughter:

How Putin’s Russia uses Soviet-era tricks to evoke racist white fears.

Putin made them racist. Sure enough.

Jeez, people, this has gotten too Freudian even for me.

We Suck

At Klara’s daycare, the kids were dressing up in costumes today. All girls got bright-colored gauzy skirts with sparkles. The boys also decided they wanted something this beautiful and put on the gauzy skirts.

When I showed up, the boys lined up to show off their skirts and get compliments from me. It’s so great to see kids before they get weighed down by rotten stereotypes and boys enter the life-long subjection to the tyranny of boring, drab, limited clothing choices. And the open, free emotionality of their early years will be stomped out of these boys as well.

The Snow Man

The story about the plagiarizing poet doesn’t end. It turns out she thinks that the following poem is about children building a snowman:

The Snow Man

Β WALLACE STEVENS

One must have a mind of winter
To regard the frost and the boughs
Of the pine-trees crusted with snow;
And have been cold a long time
To behold the junipers shagged with ice,
The spruces rough in the distant glitter
Of the January sun; and not to think
Of any misery in the sound of the wind,
In the sound of a few leaves,
Which is the sound of the land
Full of the same wind
That is blowing in the same bare place
For the listener, who listens in the snow,
And, nothing himself, beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is.
She is a stereotypical Freshman student who thinks it’s enough to read the title and that Wikipedia is a the fount of all wisdom.

Those Who Forget History

I don’t care what Bush Jr said, I don’t care who wrote the words for him, and I don’t care what those words are. I’m shocked and horrified that people are eager to proclaim that he’s not so bad after all and that we were all mistaken to detest him, and at least he’s decent. (I could give a ton of links to progressive bloggers who say this shit but I don’t want to give them traffic. I’ll do it, though, if people somehow failed to miss the outpouring of Bush love and need proof).

I’m not going to forget the global economic crisis or the Iraq War that this outlandishly stupid and dishonest piece of work engineered for us. The academic job market in my field is still completely devastated after the collapse of 2007. And this all happened after this fellow robbed the country for 8 years and slathered dishonest pseudo-religious slogans on top. Fuck him and fuck those who are glorifying him in order to engage in their Trump obsession.
