  1. Iran is not a Russian proxy, just a situational ally (in Syria). They have diverging interests in many other areas, most notably re Israel and re Iranian nuclear program.
The plane and the crew were Ukrainian. Everybody else on board were not. Thus, I do not think Russians were responsible. Or, to use different words, it is as likely as the Russian favorite conspiracy theory – that the US made the Ukrainians shoot down the plane full of Dutch people…

You obviously haven’t been watching CNN. The pundits there are literally saying that the downed plane is TRUMP’s fault.

If Trump hadn’t ordered the assassination of Soleimani, the Iranians wouldn’t have fired all those missiles, and one of them wouldn’t have hit the airplane.

So tonight Don Lemon solemnly told his audience (all six of us — me and five Democrats stupid enough to watch his show) that Trump is lying when he says there were no casualties from his unnecessary and callous “war.” There were 176, and the blood is all on Trump’s hands.

Apparently Buttigieg is also watching CNN, because this afternoon he said essentially the same thing while campaigning in Iowa.

  3. Iran Air Flight 655 was a scheduled passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai via Bandar Abbas that was shot down on 3 July 1988 by an SM-2MR surface-to-air missile fired from USS Vincennes, a guided-missile cruiser of the United States Navy. So there is a valid reason to be worried., in light their citizens are being killed without a trial abroad.

  4. I just listened to a few minutes of an IRGC commander taking responsibility. He remarked that during the previous week, the US had threatened to strike over 50 targets inside Iran. So that really may be the ultimate cause.
