It’s Out!!!!!!!!

Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.

My book is out and I will get my author’s copies next week! In time for me to include the book in my tenure review! Yes, yes, yes!

I wish it were a kind of a book where I could create a blog contest and award a free copy to the winners but it is, rather, the kind of a book where people will see having to read it as punishment.

I’m kidding, the book is very good. But it’s scholarly, and the quotes are in Spanish. I will never force anybody to read it. Even the people who appear in the Acknowledgments. I’m looking straight at you, people who appear in the Acknowledgments.

The editor says it came out very pretty. And did I mention that the editor is a superstar in my field and a scholar I want to be when I grow up?

Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.

All I now need to make my academic happiness complete is to scare up a review of the book in a scholarly journal. Ol., I’m looking straight at you. If I teach Klubnikis to say, “Vive le Québec libre!”, will you do it? Her mother will slaughter me, but at least I will die as a published and reviewed author.

Shit, I wish I were more sociable and had more friends who could write reviews for me.

Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.

      1. Is the title in Spanish? Well, I know that you know that I do not know Spanish, so you would know I am just being polite if I’d asked. But if it is in English, I am definitely interested. And, by the way, there will be more than one person willing to slaughter you for teaching anyone “Vive le Québec libre!” 🙂 🙂 You will not be able to show up in Montreal without Quebec Peoples Republic security guards. 🙂 No, seriously, I visited Bureau en Gros some days ago, and they are selling computers with the tag “English operation system: 99$ extra”.

          – The book is in English, actually. My thesis advisor ridiculed my horrible English writing style so much while I was writing this book that I started a blog to improve. And it worked.

          – I considered sucking up to you instead of my Quebecois patriot friend but he is a Hispanist, so I chose him. 🙂

          – Half of my family is in the DNR region, and we don’t joke around in the DNR. 🙂

          – The best! You need to take pictures the next time!

  1. I already congratulated you on FB, but I thought I’d say it here too! Congrats!! This is quite an accomplishment!

    1. Thank you! It’s in English, which is why it was so hard for me to write. And rewrite. And rewrite. This was why I started this blog: to get some writing practice in English and rewrite the book better.

      1. I can’t imagine UC libraries not carrying it, so I’m definitely going to read it. How long did it take you to write it?

        1. If we take actual writing and exclude the periods of dawdling and having endless monologues of the “I should be working on that book, why am I such a horrible and useless waste of space on this planet who is not working on the book?” variety, it was a little under 3 years. In terms of chronology, I started writing it the week when I met my husband. 🙂 So a little over 7 years ago.

  2. Congratulations!!! 🙂 That’s so exciting. 🙂 I think you underestimate your readership – I’ve always wondered what, exactly, it is that you study and do, since it is *so* far outside my field of expertise… I might not make it through the whole book (and my Spanish is pretty minimal, though I speak French so I can guess a bit), but I’d be interested in reading it…
