Yesterday, people in Russia marched in multitudinous protests that they call “Antimaidan.” The goal of the protests was to reject the Ukrainian Maidan movement that had honored its fallen heroes the day before.
“Are the Russians planning to rename their country into Anti-Ukraine?” people quipped on Facebook. “Why can’t they just go about their own business? Why should everything they do be about us?”
Reportedly, the Russian protesters were paid 300 roubles (a little less than $5) each for participating in the march. A pciture is worth a thousand words, so here are some slogans from the Russian Antimaidan. My translations are in the captions.
Russians are besieged by fears that evil Westerners are about to force them to hold gay parades. Many of them are convinced that it is crucial to invade Ukraine to prevent gay parades from happening. And I’m not trying to be funny right now. “Gayropa” is Putinoid speak for Europe.
And of course, the evil America, the bringer of gay parades, should just go die a painful death.
As if anybody was about to give it to them right this very minute.
Just as I’ve been telling you, Russians are already convinced that NATO soldiers (who are all black and drunk) have been fighting in the East of Ukraine. And if you don’t trust my translation, the Antimaidan protesters have helpfully provided a translation of their own:

It is really funny. The Russian economy is in shambles, the rouble keeps plummeting, Russian boys are dying by the thousand in Ukraine but what preoccupies the people of Russia are gay parades un Europe. Ridiculous.

Is the Russian verb сдыхать (from which I presume сдохни comes from) normally used about people? The Polish cognate zdychać is usually just about animals and it’s really nasty to use it about people.

Yes, exactly. I didn’t find a good equivalent in English but it’s precisely what you say. The translation would be something like “go die, you animal.” And it still sounds clumsy.
But yes, this is a wide-spread feeling about America that has been growing at least since 1999.

While here, what is the current political mood in Kiev, there’s a lot of smack from the pro-Russian Putinophiles about how Poroshenko’s days are numbered. Is there, from what you can tell, any real unrest on the ground?
Is this the usual sick Putinoid fantasies or is, as I’m a little nervous about, a full scale invasion (forget Kharkiv, I’m thinking straight to Kiev) in the cards?

Good question. There is credible evidence showing that Putin wants Ukrainians to rise against Poroshenko and Putin bots are going into overdrive to make this happen. The goal is to use this to say, “Ukraine is a failed state, so we are moving full in and marching on Kiev.” So just what you say.
The support for the 3rd Maidan in Ukraine is minimal and very marginalized. During the celebration of the anniversary 3 days ago, the soldiers who fought at Debaltseve approached Poroshenko to hug him and ask for his autograph. And that was hugely important in showing that the soldiers who suffered huge losses recently do not blame him. The propaganda still goes on, though .

It occurs to me that the single biggest problem with Russia continues to be negative selection (that is people with negative qualities prevailing over those with positive qualities). Or in more evolutionary terms, something close to negative eugenics…
What kind of future does an intelligent and honest person have in Russia? You mentioned yourself that N emigrated precisely because of this – he’s too smart and too honest to succeed in Russia. The Soviet era kept some of them inside the country (if marginalized). But essentially successive Russian governments have gone through great efforts to prop up the dishonest and/or stupid.
To be sure, there are smart people in Russia and honest people but the combination of the two seems to be really hard to come by (since they self-select themselves out of the population).
In the article on Crimea I mentioned earlier, what really sticks is that the happiest about the Russian takeover are those who are in no positition to produce wealth (basically those dependent on government handouts). Most of those who are more capable have already bolted and a less promising economic prospect than hyper militarized and economically useless population is harder to imagine.
When you spend decades opressing and/or expelling (formally or informally) those with brains and integrity you’re going to end up with a cesspit thugocracy.

Of course the US wanted to influence events (the US government would be hopelessly stupid and incompetent if they didn’t want to) but Jaceniuk was a reasonable choice (and the boxer guy …. wasn’t).
And all the Ukrainians I’ve met in the last ten years or more wanted strongly to leave the Soviet/Russian sphere and join Europe, politically if not always linguistically.
If some Croatian politician said they thought Obama should win in 2008 would that mean that he was a Croatian puppet?

But problem here is there is not Russian army in Ukraine killing civilians, but Ukrainian. Yatseniuk and Poroshenko are doing in the Ukraine the same thing Miloshevich did in former Yugoslavia, sending army on people that don’t want to do anything with their politics.

Look, these claim are just plainly idiotic. What nuclear threats you’re talking abuou. Yes Russian army secured the referendum, but people of Crimea chose what they chose. Have you even talked to somebody from Crimea? I did, and heard from them they don’t want your Svobodas and Right sectors.. Let’s not joke here.. People in Croatia can only wish victory for Obama or anybody else, but cannot influence ellections in any way.. On the other hand, Maidan, and everything about it is pure CIA operation, from the beginning to the end..
I know that many people in Ukraine got caught by nationalistic hysteria.. But I also know some people from Crimea and Eastern Ukraine that don’t want to have anything to do with that.. What about them?
